Airzonebroadband has used leading-edge wireless technology to solve the problem of keeping 10,000 scouts safe at the Eurojam event in woodlands near Chelmsford. Organisers of the 10-day camp for scouts from across Europe had faced crippling costs to provide communication lines for the high-tech event in Hylands Park from 29th of July.
We have provided a 10 Mb wireless internet system giving broadband access five times faster than normal broadband. The only cable required was from the mast into the local network at the camp headquarters in the depths of the park. "Wireless communications are the future and we provide them today, not just for business clients but ordinary households and now for 10,000 scouts from all over Europe," says Airzone MD, Rob Cleminson.
The standard communications system involving phone lines would have required an extensive and expensive installation. "Our solution was to set up a wireless link from Canary Wharf in London to Brentwood, then to a site in Writtle, and on to Hylands Park, with a corresponding link to an assembly area for the 10,000 visitors at North Weald airfield," explains Rob. " the maximum jump for the signal is almost 22 miles"
The 10 Mb wireless system allows the organisers to share information quickly, efficiently, and effectively between the sites - a distance of 15 miles, keeping track of the movements of the army of scouts. "The organisers are absolutely delighted that the system is up and running before the main event even begins," says the Airzone boss. "Wireless networking is most definitely the way ahead "
The system is providing a broadband speed of 10 Mb allowing the scouts to operate a Voice Over IP telephone system between the sites, and to synchronise data between North Weald and Hylands Park, and providing a high speed internet access which will be available to the scouts at an internet cafe and to the administration departments.
The scouts will start to arrive on Friday 29th of July and be booked into the assembly area on the North Weald airfield. The visitors will board coaches to take them to Hylands Park and then be tracked on to site to ensure that everyone arrives safely. Airzonebroadband provides an ultra-fast system far in excess of the 10 Mb required by the Eurojam organisers.

For the more technically minded :

We have delivered a 10Mb SDSL using 5.8 GHz Point to Point radio links from London to Hylands Park over 3 hops with a backup Line installed at Hylands Park (a 4 x 2Mb ADSL lines which are bonded together to give 8 Mb Down 1Mb Up)
The Scouts are using the service for amongst others Voice Over IP, and a SQL Database tracking the whereabouts of the scouts from the registration centre at North Weald Airfield, until they arrive at Hylands Park. They have also installed a VPN running over the Airzonebroadband link between Hylands and North Weald - a distance of 15 miles, the backup ADSL line can also run the VPN traffic. The system has allowed the scouts to provide an Internet Café, with about 200 PC's at Hylands Park, with 10Mb SDSL. The Scouts have installed a full fibre backbone around large part of Hylands Park which links up multiple Wireless Hotspots to provide Voice and Data services to each area of the camp.
